Hi Adenium Lovers;
Today I would like to share the idea how to make more branches or bushy style with Adenium Thai Soctranum. Most players like to play with standard to contest form. Regular form in Thai Socotranum should have serious big middle main stem and surrounding with side branches.

Now we have another new trend with bushy or multi-branches style.
Absolutely, the root is another important part. It would be spread with small many ones or muscular

form. As I used to mention about Adenium Bonsai Seedlings factors; they should be focused on spread root, shorten caudex, antique skin, branch internodes and symmetric branches on top.

ok, let's get back to topic. All of these seedlings in photos, they are about 17 months old. I have noticed that they are growing with better form by keep changing the media every 3-5 months. Most players thought if we put more fertilizer, plants will get bigger and much chubbier. Actually, this would be right but it's great with Adenium Arabicum, not Thai Socotranum.

Adenium Thai Socotranum is special hybrid. I have spent 3 years to learn about their growing since baby seedlings. Here below is what I have found with good growing for Thai Socotranum.

1. Frequently changing the media every 3-4 months will help them growing better not only body but also root get more spread and get bigger especially with muscular style.

2. Watering technique, most adenium growers know well that Adeniums do not like more wet media. This is different with Thai Socotranum, they love to have water . So.. We need to water them more... the answer is correct. How can we do this? We need to make media as much as loose as you can. When you water them, you will see the water flow down to pot bottom, not drain inside media.

This can help their root grow faster and more spread. As I said, more

roots, chubbier and branches won't get longer. Branch internodes is another classical sight. This is very classical part with Bonsai looks. Branch internodes depend on the hybrid and growing techniques. More branch internodes will come up with heavy sunlight.

Why bonsai players like more roots? The answer is that they can organize them easier to make them much more spread like Bonsai looks.

3. Media : I have used the Kampoo soil mixed with cow manure, mixed them together and fermented with EM for 3 months. Media becomes kind of black and very loose so you can water them a couple times a day. This is very perfect media for Thai Socotranum and mixed hybrid - Thai Socotranum x Arabicum.

I have never use chemical fertilizer. I like to use nutrient instead. To make more branches, I use "Chitosan" mixed with nutrient and B1 hormone and spray them every week. You can email me for more

Now new trend of Adenium seedling form playing is "Compact Bonsai", unlike giant size. They can be very nice with small of medium bonsai pot. You can put them in nice area if your house or using for landscape business.

Most growers thought "Dwarf" word means, not growing or slowly growing. Actually this is not right. This word just represents the form, these adeniums will grow normally but body grow in width's direction

Hello Adenium Lovers;

Today I would like to share the idea how to make adenium with nice form especially with productive flower blooming's technique. In Thailand, we like to use the medium & Large sizes with gardening and landscape business. The most important thing is to focus on nice caudex form and easily productive flowers.

First, I would like to begin with Caudex selection. We have many caudex styles but mainly there are

3 styles popular here.

1. Round shape or Obesum Rootstock
2. Bonsai Shape or Thai Rootstock
3. Special style e.g. Golden caudex

The caudex form I mentioned above is "Rooststock". Mostly Rootstock itself might not have nice, productive and beautful flowers so we need to graft her with lovely flowers to make her more beautiful.

We can make her not only single flower color but also multi-colors or

we call; "Fancy Grafting". The most popular grafting adenium now is "Rosy Adeniums" grafted with medium or large caudex rootstock.

Absolutely, we need to select the nice caudex with your own style. Medium size (3-4 yrs) has about 7-8 inch caudex diameter and Large size (5-8 yrs) has over 12 inch caudex diameter. The caudex skin is another point to consider as well, most players or collectors like more antique or wrinkle skin than green one.

After we finish selecting the rootstock style, next we need to select the adenium flowers or varieties to graft her. To make large size more beautiful and bushy flowers we need to find the variety giving productive flowers.

If you don't know which varieties with productive flowers, we can suggest you about this because we have worked and developed many adenium flowers for 7 years.

To make bushy flowers on large adenium is very easy because she

has enough branches to get grafting. We just use only 1-1.5 inch scion for grafting. The reason that we use short scions grafting because this would help grafting wound recovery faster and especially give more new branches on bud cutting. It takes about 30-40 days to make sure that scion is ok not rotten. You can check this by seeing a couple small leaves coming out from top cutting area.

After that time scions will get longer about 2-4 inches then you need to prune them again to get

more branches. You can do pruning her again 2-3 times. After you are ok with branch form, now it's time to make flowers. Here is the technique I prepare her in 2 months before joining contest. I let Adenium hungry by stop watering for 2-3 weeks. Don't worry, Adenium is very strong and she will be ok especially with big size.

After that watering her with 8-24-24 or orchid fertilizer instead of pure water for first 3 days and stop watering until you see small flower buds coming out.

In this year, we have produced Adenium flowers with multi-overlapped petals or we called “Rosy Adeniums. This is the biggest revolution of this year not only with Rosy Adeniums but also Adenium form. I have got many questions from Adenium players from many countries how to choose the nice Adenium seedlings to grow or maintain them with better form. Adenium seedlings in my mention is Adenium : Thai Socotranum, Arabicum and mixed hybrid : Thai Socotranum x Arabicum.

Long time ago, most of players only concerned with what hybrids can grow in good form. This would also have a big problem with new players because they are not familiar with Adenium hybrids or characters so they hardly decide and select what hybrids will be able to grow in good form. This will come up with the next question “What is Adenium with good form gonna be?”. About 3 years ago, players here were so serious about true hybrids, not even think much about form because they are very serious to get seedlings grown from true mother plant only. Two years later, Bonsai begins into Adenium especially with Adenium : Thai Socotranum. Players or growers start applying Bonsai’s technique with Adenium : Thai Socotranum. Actually, Bonsai has come to Thailand for many years

ago but mostly using with Adenium Obesum : Thai Root Stocks grafted with flower varieties. Last year, Adenium : Thai Socotranum was very popular because they can grow in Bonsai form ,in term of seedling, much more than other Adenium hybrids. Why can they be Bonsai form? The reason is her characters are bushy or symmetric branches, antique caudex skin or wrinkle skin and especially with spread root easy to organize them as Bonsai. All of these factors can make them become Adenium Bonsai Seedlings.

Until now, players do not care much about hybrids but care for form following with Bonsai Class. Not only old players but many new players have also changed the way to grow in term of form instead of hybrids focusing. Now let’s get back to our topic, “how we select nice Adenium seedlings?” My recommendation is the form selection. There are mainly 3 forms below that I would like to recommend to new players. All of these forms are followed with Bonsai Form. Here they are…
1. Bonsai Form with spread muscular root, Dwarf form, antique caudex skin and symmetric branches style: This characters is mostly originally developed from mixed hybrid between Thai Socotranum and Arabicum.
2. Bonsai Form with spread centipede root, antique skin and bushy branches : This Adenium is developed from Thai Socotranum with dwarf form.
3. Bonsai Form with spread root, antique skin and symmetric branches. This Adenium is developed from Thai Socotranum : Golden Crown.

Today I would like to talk about another Adenium Rootstock style with large size. Most people think that most of Adenium Rootstock have round shape caudex and root spread but this style is followed by Bonsai Style with many spiral roots around caudex.

Not only nice caudex and root, branches are also followed with Bonsai class. That means we need to know the branch position to do the grafting in order to make her more beautiful in every angle when flowers are fully bloom.

We have many rootstocks with this style. The most popular now is to graft these rootstocks with Rosy Adeniums. We provide this grafting service with your own flower or variety selection to graft with this kind of rootstock. Most of our Rootstock is over 10 years and 12-15 inches caudex diameter so this would make caudex skin look antique and very classical.

Hi Adenium Lovers;

I have received many questions from Adenium growers or players how to grow Adeniums with nice form especially with Dwarf and Bonsai forms. The primary thing to do that is”genus’s knowledge”, this is what I always mention before. Here we have 11 genus of Adenium: Arabicum and 5 genus of Thai Socotranum. Every genus has own unique character such as black caudex skin, tower style, spread root, shiny leaf etc.

To create the Adenium form as you wish is very simple. I have spent 4 years to study them in order to produce many new hybrids to get the best form. The concept to do this is the same as making new Adenium flowers by using your imagination then choose which parents you’re gonna cross each other. The second things are growing techniques and media use perfectly matches with Adenium growing. The third thing is plant growth enhancer.

Today I would like to share the idea about the third one. Many growers know well about fertilizer use to make plant grow healthy and strong. Some of them use too much fertilizer but Adeniums still get weak, not grow well or growing faster and lose the form. I like to use organic fertilizer more than chemical one use because this won’t destroy the soil but adjust it instead. The organic fertilizers I use mostly are cow manure mix with granular fish fertilizer doing on changing pot. Chemical fertilizer use might make Adenium hardly to control the form.

One more important thing is how to make Adeniums better fresh and more consume fertilizer and nutrients. I would like to introduce “Chitosan”. Chitosan is the compilation of what each product can do to protect and stimulate growth of your plants. Chitosan is a polysaccharide extracted from the shell of crab or shrimp. It is known to be biocompatible, biodegradable, and nontoxic. The scientific benefits of Chitosan have even been recognized in 1992.

Chitosan is neither a fertilizer medicine hormones nor vitamin. It is used primarily as a plant growth enhancer, better fertilizer consuming, and as a substance that boosts the ability of plants against fungal infections. Chitosan will work parallel with fertilizer so you need to give plant fertilizer a couple day before using it. Why Chitosan can help plant to protect against disease? When spraying Chitosan on leaves, plants will feel like disturbed by insects then they will release Chitines on their leave surfaces and make leaves thicker. This will help adeniums to be able to defeat against fungal infections or any diseases. From this reason, plants will grow faster growing and healthier.

Chitosan Benefit	How to use?
1. Make more root and spread	Use with B1 hormone or root growth hormone every 7 days on baby seedlings
2. Make more branches	Spraying chitosan on leaves or watering every 7 day. Chitosan will help Adeniums absorb the nutrients in fertilizer and media better. I recommend to use “Granular Fish Fertilizer” because it consists of many nutrients (Ca, Mg, Zn, etc ) make more fitting branches, not longer and more internodes. Branch Internodes are also make branches nice in Bonsai look especially black internodes.
3. Make larger & chubby caudex	Use cow manure mix with the soil and spray the Chitosan after 2 days every week.

Today I would like to share the idea of “how to select good Adenium form?” The criteria that I am going to talk about came from my contest experiences. I have been Adenium jury many times so I would like to share my knowledge what principle jury use for winning Adenium in contest. In here, , Thailand, we have many juries have good experience and decision. Some juries might be new on Adenium, this would make players big headache however the

Items	Indicators
Branch	Symmetric for all branches, compact, not too lengthy, clear branch-internodes
Body / Caudex	Caudex must be balance with branch and root. Caudex might be look orderly or free style such as Bonsai or Caudex show
Root	Root should be lifted up to see distinctively and should be spread around lower caudex.
Leaf and Flower	Leaf must be look fresh and mostly green not look messy because this will conceal the branch. Flower should be fresh, not burnt from disease or insect.
Healthiness	This is like big picture of adenium plant considered by items above.
Ratio of Plant size & pot	Plant should be matched with pot size and style. e.g. Adenium chubby or compact form should be grown in shallow pot or bonsai tray, tall style like Adenium somalense should be grown in tower pot.
Media Surface	Media should look clean, you can make it more beautiful by using bonsai stone scatter over media.
Readiness	Clean pot, media surface and plant should look clean during preparation before contest begins.

Photo on the left side is shown nice root system, good braches in terms of compact, clear internodes. and healthiness. Leaf is fresh green and flower is also fresh blooming. Covering the media surface with browny bonsai stone.

These are my principle items using for judgment in the contest here especially with Arabicum, Thai Socotranum and Adenium Bonsai Seedling. Actually this might not be correct all because each jury or expert players might have different point of views.

If you are seriious contest person, you should prepare plant since baby seedlings. Don't strict on one form you like. You should prepare plants in many styles. This would help adenium growers or players have better improvement, more funny, and broader sight. Here below are the photos with many style of seedlings being prepared for contest. They are about 2 years with 4-5 inches caudex diameter. Please remember, the most important thing to grow with nice form is :Hybrid" use.

Hello Adenium Lovers;

Today I would like to invite you to play with new Adenium trend. When we talk about Adeniums, most of people think about flowers with caudex. Now Adenium does not play or attract with only flower anymore, we also have fun with form’s playing. The question is what form we should play on adeniums? The answer is “Bonsai form”. Adenium form that I am talking is not authentic bonsai but it is just used the bonsai technique to make them grow like Bonsai

What Adenium hybrids can use for form playing? In here, Thailand, we love to use Adenium : Thai Socotranum or mixed hybrid between Thai Socotranum and Arabicum. The most popular of Thai Socotranum is “Golden Crown” and also very expensive here. You can know about Thai Socotranum and Arabicum by clicking the “hybrids” icon on green menu above.

I have spent 4 years to learn all of Adenium hybrids especially with Thai Socotranum and Arabicum and found that only Thai Socotranum and mixed hybrids from Thai Soco x Arabicum can better grow in Bonsai form.

The natures of their growing are lengthy branches, non-symmetric branches and big trunk. This is very old style or obsolete form and here we don’t play with this form anymore so I have spent my time to study and develop them until they came up with new style with bonsai form. How do I do that? Here below are techniques I would like to share. This would help you save your time for better growing.

The most important thing that I always emphasize about growing with better form is “Hybrid Knowledge”. There are 3 main things to notice with good or bonsai form; Spread Roots, Symmetric Branches, and chubby caudex. Actually there are some more things; Leaves Styles, Caudex Skin, Branches Antinodes, Caudex Color, etc but you just follow 3 main things I mentioned above should be enough.

Let’s get back to the growing techniques:

The 1st step: Baby Seedlings (aged 1-1.5 months)

You need to work hard on baby seedlings, 1-1.5 months, since they grow up from the media. The media I used for baby seedlings (growing them in basket) is coconut powder mixed with cow manure and fermented soil in ratio 2:1:1. After 1.5 months, you need to repot them in 4 inches pot. After finish repotting, you need to water them with B1 root hormone mixed with Chitosan.

This would help roots are get used to new media faster and make more roots especially with fibrous roots. The media I use for this time is soil fermented for 3 months, fish organic fertilizer, cow manure, and pound bone.

You can easily notice why I mostly use the organic fertilizer and avoid chemical fertilizer because organic fertilizer can help seedlings will grow healthier, resist any diseases by themselves and help media loose perfect with Adenium growing. Chemical fertilizer will make media tight and then it will retain water made Adenium root not grow and rotten. Fish fertilizer can help Adenium produces more branches and stronger caudex.

The 2nd step : Seedlings (aged 2-6 months)

This step is also important because seedling start showing the form especially with branches and roots. The media and fertilizer use is the same with the 1st step. You need to repot them again in 6 inches pot. You also need to organize their roots for this time. Try to make roots spread out of caudex, this would help roots feel better and absorb more water and fertilizer. You can notice them that they grow faster and better

form. As I said before, more roots and branches will help chubby or shorten caudex and symmetric branches. Some growers like speed up them with high dose fertilizer because they want to make bigger size in short term. It’s not good because it will be like fat man but not strong and healthy. This also makes caudex skin become fresh green, not antique skin, so this is not matched with in bonsai term.

The 3rd step : Seedlings (aged 6-9 months)
Keep growing them like 2 steps above. No need to cut the leaves to stop longer branches. This is old technique for Arabicum. It’s not necessary to do that with Adenium: Thai Socotranum and mixed hybrid (Thai Soco x Arabicum) because they will set up the branches themselves or I can say branches will grow beautifully by their natures. The only thing you need to is to organize the roots and you should do it monthly.

The final step : Seedlings (aged 9 months up)

Keep pruning the branches and organizing their roots. You should know the bonsai technique about how to prune or trim branches. You should spray them with Chitosan mixed with B1 root hormone every week to make them better absorbing nutrient and fertilizer in media. I think all of these brief steps above can help you grow Adeniums in better form and have fun.

Leaves are also one of attractive points with Adenium forms but this is also ignored by growers and players. Some forms are nice but not matched with their leaves. From photo belows show many leaf styles from new crossing between Thai Socotranum and Arabicum. Is Adenium or Rose?
We have tried to develop Rosy Adenium flower to become the most like Rose. This is not only attractive with multi-overlapping petals, but also with caudex’s fascination. Here, we love to grow Adenium with medium or large rootstock caudex size with full blooming. There are many styles for rootstocks,such as bonsai, bell shape, arabicum style with chubby caudex. Adenium grow well in hot season and give full blooming so we wish Adenium would be your one of your choices in this Summer.

Hi Adenium Lovers,

I have to write more about the article of “Fun with Form” because I have got many questions from my Adenium fans about how to make nice spread roots and organize them. Today I would like to share more techniques about this.

As Thai proverb "You can't teach an old dog new tricks.", this means that if you want your kids to be good people, you 've gotta coach or tutor them since they are baby. Adenium is almost the same with this proverb because she cannot listen to you when you coach her… ha ha ha …


Step1. Remove adeniums with media very carefully	Step 2. Shaking seedlings to let the media out of their roots carefully and try not to let them tear.	Step 3. You will see the roots are almost complete.

Step 4. Spray them water very gently not to let them dry.	Step 5. Soil preparation, I use the 3- month fermented soil with Fish remains, EM and molass.	Step 6. Dry cow manure, this is good for adenium seedling growing.

Step 7. Small coconut chunk	Step 8. Mixing them with ratio 2:1:2 (Soil:Cow Manure: Coconut Chunk). This is perfect for baby seedlings because media is pretty loose, not retain water,	Step 9. Put the coconut chunk in half of 4 inch pot. Coconut chunks will give more air to the roots and help water flow out of pot bottom better.

Step 10. Putting the mixed media level up to pot border.	Step 11. Put the baby seedlings on top of media very soft and try to expand the roots over media surface. This is the most important step to make root spread out.	Step 12. Use the sticks to organize or lock the roots positions as you wish. This would help roots spread more, not messy growing. This is the most important step as I said above ""You can't teach an old dog new tricks."

Step 13. Scatter the Fish Granular Fertilizer around the pot border. This would help root get longer and stronger to find it.	Step 14. Cover it with media and water with Chitosan mixed with B1 Hormone until water flow out of the pot bottom. Then take it to outdoor with heavy sunlight. That's it.

Not all adenium hybrids can perform spread root following with bonsai concept. From my 7 years experiences, I have developed and found that Thai Socotranum and mixed hybrid Thai Socotranum x Arabicum can give much more spread root than other hybrids.

Arabicum itself hardly perform spread root because her nature is chubby caudex or tower style. Why do I use Arabicum mix with Thai Socotranum? The reason is Arabicum can give the faster growth rate and better shorten caudex neck.

I concern with Fibrous Roots more than Main Root because they can search for the food better than main roots. Sometimes, if I find some seedlings got few fibrous root, I will cut the main root to make her produce more fibrous roots. Oh! that's hurt!.. ha ha ha..

Fibrous roots themselves can be used for organization. That's why I need to make them grow bigger and get more spread. I have tried many ways to make them like that e.g. putting more fertilizer but it ain't work much. Please see the right photo for root growing.

To make more roots is the hardest part. If you got few roots , how you're gonna organize them? First you need to concern the hybrid, which hybrid can give more roots and then use this technique.

Watering these baby seedling aged 1 month up with Chitosan plus B1 hormone once a week. Now seedlings are grown in tray. After one month later, you will see they will get much more roots ready to repot them to 4 inch pot. Then follow the steps above, very easy.

In here, many adenium developers like to use nice medium or large size as motherplant and produce seedlings from her with crossing in the same plant. This is the old way in my opinion. I like to select nice parents (father: pollen and mother) to do crossing each other. You can get many new characters or forms and also see new thing you don't expect what this happens to Adeniums. :)

which now comes up with new Rosy Adenium is very popular all around the world. Most adenium lovers think that adenium are just caudex plant with their beautiful flowers. Now they can come up with new style with bonsai style. Unfortunately, most of adenium bonsai developing from Thai Socotranum or mixed hybrid (Thai Socotranum x Arabicum) gives mostly with pink flower tone. Now I have been trying to make them to give many colors.
Of course, what I can do is to use Obesum hybrid with nice flower color to cross with them. I hope some days, we can see Adenium Bonsai Seedling with many new colors. If you have questions or comments, please feel free to ask me via my email.
